Workshop: Mass Spectrometry KW37 @ IBMB
Sep 11 – Sep 13 all-day

Place: Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Nussallee 11, 53115 Bonn

Audience: PhD students of BigS Drugs, Neuroscience,  and Immunosciences and Infection. Other members of UKB or University of Bonn please contact Marc Sylvester (masse@uni-bonn.de).

Aim: Basic understanding of mass spectrometry and its applications in life sciences. Training on preparation of biological samples for sensitive mass spectrometric analyses.

Topics:
– Introduction to mass spectrometry principles and hardware
– Preparation techniques of samples for mass spectrometry
– Measurement of samples by MALDI-TOF and ESI-Iontrap techniques
– Data processing and interpretation
– Identification of a protein by fingerprint analysis and by peptide fragmentation
– Identification of multiple proteins from a complex protein mixture
– Identification of posttranslational modifications
– introduction to current topics and literature

Requirements: Basic knowledge of protein biochemistry

There will be two consecutive workshops in September with space for about 6 participants each. Members of the three graduate schools BIGS DrugS, Neuroscience, and Immunosciences and Infection will have priority.

Registration is closed but we will probably offer the workshop in the fall of 2020 again.

29th Annual Conference of the German Society for Cytometry @ Charité Mitte

Dear friends of cytometry,

With great pleasure I announce the 29th Meeting of the German Society for Cytometry (DGfZ), to be held from Sept, 25th-27th in Berlin.

It is a privilege for me to host this great meeting at the historic campus Charité Mitte, right in the center of Berlin. In keeping with this year´s motto “Visions in cytometry”, we hope to bring together experts from various disciplines for an exciting exchange of new ideas.

As the venue is conveniently located in walking distance from the main station, we will for sure attract a large crowd of cytometry enthusiasts. A number of exciting invited speakers have already confirmed their attendance, and we will have sessions on attractive topics such as microscopy and image analysis, nanotechnology, microbiology, all focusing on the application of novel technologies. This inspiring program will for sure spark interesting discussion between scientists, technologists and industrial partners.

In addition to the scientific sessions, we will again have the popular “product slam” format, where our industrial sponsors will present their newest innovations within three minutes. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet and become informed about new products during the industrial exhibition. At this point I would like to thank the industrial sponsors for their generous financial support, which makes this meeting possible.

I am looking forward to welcoming you here in Berlin,

Anja Hauser
President of the DGfZ
